The basics

Is Fantasy Projections free?

Yes. There are no fees and no paid tier. You need an account only to make picks. Projections, stats and news are open to everyone.

Is this a betting or daily fantasy site?

No. Nothing here involves money. You can’t deposit, wager or win cash or prizes. Picks earn a grade, XP, achievements and a place on the leaderboard. You play for bragging rights.

Live games and timing

Why is there no live data during games?

The site is built for before and after games, not during them. Before kickoff you research and make picks. After the game you see how they did. Picks lock 10 minutes before kickoff, so there’s nothing to do here while the game is on. Watch it instead.

When are my picks graded?

Usually within about an hour of the final whistle. Final stats are published about 45 minutes after a game ends, and we grade them within minutes of their arrival. Night games are graded late that night or early the next morning.

When do picks lock? Can I change one?

You can make or edit a pick until 10 minutes before that player’s game kicks off. Each game locks on its own, so Monday night players stay open after Sunday’s games have started.

What if a player I picked doesn't play?

If he doesn’t play and has no stat line, the pick is void. It doesn’t count for or against you. If he plays even a few snaps, the pick is graded as usual. Challenge questions about a player who is ruled out beforehand are cancelled. How grading works →

Projections

When do projections change?

All week, as the injury report and news come in, and more often in the two hours before kickoff, when inactives are announced. At kickoff a player’s projection is frozen. That frozen number is the house line your pick is compared against.

Where does your data come from?

Stats, schedules and rosters come from nflverse, an open, community-maintained collection of NFL data. Injury designations come from the league’s official injury report. We’re not affiliated with the NFL or any team.

How are the projections made?

Each stat is projected separately, starting from the player’s own history across several spans of games, recent and longer term. That baseline is then adjusted for what’s happening this week, including how likely he is to play, changes in his role, and teammates who are out. Every input is tested against past seasons and kept only if it makes the projections more accurate. The exact formula is our own, so we don’t publish it.

What are the floor and ceiling?

The range a player’s output usually falls in. The floor is a below-average week for him and the ceiling an above-average one, based on the spread of his own past games. It’s set so that about three weeks in five land between the two, and it held up when tested on last season.

Why doesn't a player have a projection?

A player needs at least two games of history before we project him. A rookie or a newly signed player gets one once he has played, or earlier if the news names him as a starter. A player who has been ruled out shows no projection for that week.

Picks and competing

Can other people see my picks?

Only if you share them. Your picks are private until you do. Everyone can see your username, your scores and grades, and your leaderboard rankings. The crowd average combines everyone’s picks without names.

What is the crowd?

The crowd is the average of everyone’s picks on a player for this week. It appears once at least two people have picked him and updates every 15 minutes.

What's the difference between player picks and challenges?

A player pick is your full stat line for one player, graded out of 100 for accuracy plus a bonus for beating our projection. A challenge is a quick two-way call on a game or a player, worth XP when you get it right, and more XP when most people got it wrong. Both count toward achievements.

Your account

Why can I only sign in with Google or Discord?

This way we never hold a password for you, so there’s no password of yours to leak. It also means we never need to email you, and we don’t. Each email address can sign in only one way. To switch, contact us.

Why was my username rejected?

Usernames are public, so each one is checked for offensive language. After several rejected attempts, choosing a username is locked. Contact us if you think a name was blocked by mistake.

How do I delete my account?

Send a request through the contact page while signed in, with the topic “My account”, and we’ll delete it within 30 days. You can’t do it from Settings yet. The Privacy Policy explains what is removed and when.

I found a wrong stat or a bug. Who do I tell?

Use the contact page. Include the player, the week and what looks wrong.
